Yukari Ishizawa

Which countries can you connect with"sheep"?

Yes! It's New Zealand!!

When I was a university student, I went New Zealand for a month to study English.
I stayed in Christchurch that is the biggest city in south island of NZ.
I really like NZ because it has a beautiful nature and friendly people.
It is a country that motivated me to go to Canada on a working holiday.
So, I want to introduce my favorite places in NZ!

①Christchurch Cathedral

Christchurch Cathedral was in the center of Christchurch. It was built in 1904.
This building has a sophisticated design and beautiful stained glass.
Every February, the flower festival is held in Christchurch,
then this cathedral is filled with a lot of flowers.

The combination of beautiful flowers and cathedral is very nice, isn't it!?

②Lake Tekapo

It takes about 3hours and a half by car to get to Lake Tekapo from Christchurch.
We can see the Southern Alps and milky blue lake there.
Also, we can enjoy looking flower that is called "Lupin".

I bought the seeds for souvenir!
Near Lake Tekapo, there is a small church that is called "Church of the Good Shepherd".

When I looked the beautiful scene, I felt as if I went into the picture book.
Also, this lake is famous for a starry sky.

Tekapo means "Bed of night" , and this word was named by Maori people
who are former inhabitant in NZ.

③Tranz Alpine

Tranz Alpine is the most popular tourist train in NZ.
It runs between the east coast and west coast in south island.
The train passes a primeval forest, meadow, and Southern Alps.
I got the shock of my life when I looked the landscape from the train.

This is a one of the most unforgettable landscape in my life.

Actually, 2years later that I went back to Japan, the big earthquake occurred in Cristchurch.

The Christchurch Cathedral was destroyed by earthquake.
Earthquake brought the grief to people in NZ.

However, I still can't run away from the fascination of NZ,especially south island.
If you are interested in NZ, how about visiting there?
New Zealand is waiting for you!!!
